Hello,

I am wondering if substantial amount of work was completed for a MetLife Real Estate matter, and that transaction cancelled, can the Attorney still bill MetLife for that work?

Hello CindyLoo,

Depending on the terms set forth in the signed engagement agreement, you should be able to still collect some money.  If it was a fixed fee matter, many engagment agreements have wording regarding cancelled matters where a portion of the fixed fee can be collected based on time spent on the matter.

Without a signed engagement agreement, you can try to collect something, but there is not much recourse if they don’t want to pay.
