I wish the archive numbering was automatic. When you close a file in archive Smokeball auto generate the numbers. Waste a lot of time finding the last number and then remembering which one you are up to when archiving. Also do know when someone else is archiving a file.
Having an option to auto-number the archive box would be good, but having that as the default, at least for us, wouldn’t be advantageous.
For us, having it auto-generated would lead to more issues. We typically co-locate client archives even though the matters may be different. Since our firm and our archives pre-dates SB, we have a separate spreadsheet database for archiving and box location finding. We continue to run parallel systems. We enter into SB the proper number.
Some day, some intern will have the job to conform SB to all the archived folders in our older system. For now, no. Not going to happen.
So a good solution would be to have an option of manual or automatic. We would choose automatic and you would choose manual.
