The Art of Cross-Examination: Effective Techniques & Strategies

About this event

When done well, cross-examination can expose inconsistencies, weaken opposing testimony, and reinforce your argument. Done poorly, it can backfire tremendously, giving the witness more credibility and ultimately damaging your case.

This FREE CLE is designed to give you practical, real-world techniques to approach cross-examination with confidence. Whether you’re a seasoned litigator or preparing for your first trial, you’ll learn how to ask the right questions, stay in control, and get the answers you want.

In this free CLE, board-certified attorney Heather King, a Shareholder at KoonsFuller, will give you cross-examination strategies that you can use immediately. No fluff, no abstract concepts—just real-world tips that work.

In this free CLE webinar, you’ll learn about:

  • How to plan and structure your questions for maximum impact
  • How to keep the witness from dodging, rambling, or undermining your case
  • What not to do when cross-examining a witness

Duration: 60 minutes

This webinar is eligible for CLE credit in multiple jurisdictions.*

Heather King, Attorney

Heather King is the complete family lawyer, one of the few family law attorneys with extensive experience from the beginning of a case, through trial or settlement, to the handling of an appeal. Because of her range of talents, she is called upon to handle trials and appeals throughout Texas.

Heather is especially adept at handling appeals of divorce cases. Recently, a reporter for WBAP Radio in Fort Worth spoke to her about the challenges involved in appealing a divorce case.

Heather joined KoonsFuller in 2007 as a Shareholder and manager of the firm’s Southlake Office. She is past President of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists and a former President of the Tarrant County Bar Association and the Tarrant County Family Law Bar Association. Heather was also voted ‘2013 Top Rated Lawyer in ‘Appellate Law’ by Martindale-Hubbell™.

Heather was recognized as a 2019 Texas Trailblazer by Texas Lawyer and D Magazine selected her as one of the Best Women Lawyers in North Texas (2010). Fort Worth Magazine has recognized her as one of the area’s Top Attorneys and The Best Lawyers in America honored her as one of Texas’ Best Lawyers from 2009 to present. She has been named to the list of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in the state and a Texas Super Lawyers honoree as published by Thomson Reuters.

Heather began her association with the legal profession as a receptionist for a Fort Worth firm while an undergraduate at Texas Christian University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1987. She earned her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1995.

Heather is board certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She is a member of the Family Law Council of the State Bar of Texas and a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

She is especially proud of her published appellate cases, many of which are found in the annotations to the Texas Family Code. While her practice is evenly divided between appellate and trial work, she believes the fine sense of detail that leads to a successful appeal makes her better in the courtroom or in a settlement conference.

Jordan Turk, Attorney & Legal Technology Advisor

Jordan is a practicing attorney in Texas, and the Legal Technology Advisor at Smokeball. Her family law expertise includes complex property division and contentious custody cases, as well as appeals and prenuptial agreements. In addition to her family law practice, she’s passionate about legal technology and how it can revolutionize law firms.

Jordan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Classics, History, and Religious Studies and then went on to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law to earn her J.D. After almost four years of practice with a high-asset family law firm in Houston (and after being frustrated at the lack of automation in her firm), she discovered the world of legal technology which ultimately brought her to Smokeball.

In Hacking Law Firm Success with Jordan Turk, she interviews law firm founders about how they grew and scaled their practices, as well as their ethos behind managing a firm.
