Hi, Does anyone know how to change a matter from a person/individual to an organization/firm in a real estate matter? The matter is currently being changed from a Real Estate Buy matter to a Real Estate Sell matter, and I am trying to update the client entity accordingly.

@Namie - to accomplish the above, you will need to follow the below steps:

  1. Open the matter you want to convert to a different Matter Type
  2. Open the Matter Type screen on the matter listing
  3. Click “change...”
  4. Pick the new Matter Type from the tree structure
  5. Click OK
  6. Enter a “Reason For Change”
  7. Click OK
  8. Thoroughly read the “Change Matter Type Confirmation” warning, as changing the Matter Type may result in data loss
  9. Click the “I have read the above message” checkbox
  10. Click YES
  11. On the newly converted Matter Type, right-click on the Contact you want to change
  12. Click “Remove” from the context menu options
  13. Click YES
  14. Click back into the empty role where the Contact was deleted in Steps 12-13
  15. Re-enter the Contact as the correct Contact Type (you can do this at any stage really)

There is no way to easily convert the Contact Type from a Person to an Organization for an existing contact at this time. It is best to create a new Contact in the correct type, delete the old (if relevant), and re-assign them the correct role in the freshly converted matter. I hope this helps - if not, feel free to contact Support.
