Tired of manually resetting your matter numbers/internal references every January? You don't have to anymore!
You can now set the Auto-counter component of your matter numbering system to restart at 1 automatically at the start of each new calendar year. The first matter you open in the new year will begin a fresh sequence, with no manual steps.
Turn it on once in the web app, and it works everywhere. Matters created in the desktop app, the web app or on mobile will all follow your new numbering.
How to turn it on
- In the web app, go to Firm Settings > Matter Number or Internal Reference (localized by region).
- Make sure your format includes a Year (YY) or Year (YYYY) component alongside Auto-0123.
- Select the Auto-0123 component and switch on Reset Auto-counter at the beginning of the new calendar year.
- Save your settings.
Good to know
- The setting is available in web app right now. It will appear in desktop settings shortly, but you don't need to wait.
- The reset always restarts at 1 upon new calendar year, even if you currently use a custom "Start from" number.
- It's off by default, so you'll need to switch it on if you want to take advantage.
Set it up today and your matter numbering will take care of itself when 2027 arrives!
