Celebrating two lawyers' life-changing work

I’m thrilled to announce the 2024 Beacon Award winners!

Grand Prize Winner: Mikye Miller

Mikye has centered his legal practice around pro bono work since 2010, dedicating 100+ hours annually to pro bono and reduced-fee services. Additionally, he volunteers his time at monthly legal clinics and offers legal education to the gender diverse community on the name change process and associated resources.

To honor his work, Mikye will receive a $2,500 check, plus a $2,500 donation made in his honor to the legal aid organization of his choice.

People’s Choice Winner: Candice Iheme

Candice offers daily free consultations through her law firm, helping pro se applicants and those who can’t afford legal services get the representation they need. She additionally dedicates weekly hours working for the Office of Public Defender.

Alongside Mikye and Candice, we celebrate the work of the 2024 finalists: Colleen Contreras, Ted Donner, Molly Hargrove, Andrea Keifer, Anthony Naro, Jerry Novak, and Scott Walker.

Smokeball clients do amazing things.

These community heroes have changed the lives of veterans, law students, gender diverse individuals, families facing transition, and those needing legal assistance.

We’re grateful to everyone who’s creating and inspiring positive change in their communities. If you or someone you know is doing amazing pro bono work, we’d love to hear about it!
