Happy new year everyone!
We have a tradition here of creating a post each month for members new and old to get to know each other.

It only takes a moment and is a great way to learn how to make a post in the community so that you’re familiar with the system when you need answers in a hurry.

So- grab a cuppa (as we say here in Australia) and answer me these questions three:

1. How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?
Were you fast asleep (like me), or wide awake?
2.  Whether you're a fan of New Year’s resolutions or not; goal setting can be a powerful way to achieve the things that matter to you.
Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?
3. I’ve recently become fascinated with colloquialisms- or slang.
What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

I look forward to reading your answers and learning a little more about you.

p.s here’s the questions again without my rambling… hopefully that makes it a little easier to copy :)

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

Happy new year!

I’ve posted in the Community a couple of times, but I haven’t really introduced myself before. I am one of the Onboarding Specialist here at Smokeball.

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? I spent my Christmas and New Years exploring and camping through some of high country Victoria, including Mt Buffalo, Smoko and Bright. Managed to steer away from the crowds mostly by getting to some really remote camp spots 😎

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year? I’d like to improve my general fitness this year and plan on doing some multi-day hikes. I’ve been particularly interested in doing the Great Ocean Walk - Which is around 110km over about 7 days.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of? Being British and living in Australia, sometimes I’ll say something that my partner quite likes to mock me for as she hasn’t come across it before. The most recent addition was ‘on the trot’ - which means following one after another.

Happy 2023 everyone. As customer marketing manager at Smokeball, I get the joy of working across many departments and closely with our clients.

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? After a several-year hiatus, some good friends brought back their NYE party, which includes a lively pinball tournament and lots of great food.

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year? I have a bubble map of 2023 with major life categories and associated plans/goals for each. It’s great for goal-setting but also a helpful visualization that life is multi-faceted, and there’s almost always good things happening elsewhere if one part of life isn’t functioning how you want.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?
Ope. It’s a sort of involuntary utterance exclaimed by Midwesterns that’s a synonym for sorry, excuse me, or whoops.

I am new to Smokeball Community.  We started using the program last month.  I celebrated NYE by going to bed early having just suffered a rousing bout with the stomach flu.

My biggest goal for 2023 is to have a long, lovely vacation to a place on my bucket list!

A slang term I have used is “Nah Uh”, which means no way to me.

@Phyllis5606 Welcome, and thanks for sharing! That’s a great 2023 goal. What destinations are on the bucket list? My spouse and I are hoping to eat our way through Korea in the fall...

Welcome @Phyllis5606! I hope you’re feeling better now. That does not sound like a fun way to spend new years.

I’m keen to know what your bucket list destinations are too. It’s been a while since I’ve had a good travel adventure.

@kuhrich I have something similar although mine’s a spreadsheet. I need to learn more about this bubble map of yours as I’m pretty visual and it sounds much cooler than my sheet.

Happy New Year! 🤗

I am on of the Client Success Managers at Smokeball and before joining Smokeball, I was in the Legal Industry for 8 years.

1. How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? For New Year’s eve, I spent it by celebrating my close friend’s birthday with all our loved ones!

2. Whether you're a fan of New Year’s resolutions or not; goal setting can be a powerful way to achieve the things that matter to you.  Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year? This year, I would like to continue to keep up with my fitness, it was a goal last year which works out really well and I would like to continue it. Travelling is always on my list and this year I already have made 2 planned trips. 😊

3. I’ve recently become fascinated with colloquialisms- or slang. What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of? Something that I say often is “100%” which just means “definitely”.

Outside of Smokeball, you can find me at restaurants trying new meals, hanging out with my fur baby Millie (French Bulldog) or travelling around. ✌️

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is having a great start to 2023 😝

I am one of the Client Success Managers here and get to work very closely with our clients and numerous teams within Smokeball.

1. How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? This New Years was quite special as we took our son to see fireworks for the first time at a local community event. It was a great night with lots of food, rides and live entertainment.

2. Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

One goal for 2023 would be to travel more. May it be small road trips to somewhere here in Victoria, or our first ever overseas family holiday! A personal goal of mine is to try and get back into my personal fitness (again🤗), and become healthier and more active. The plan is in motion and each Saturday morning, I’ll be doing the 1001 Steps with my mother in law.

3. What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of? A couple of words that I use quite often are “ Righteo “ and “Alrighty”

Hello 2023! Happy New Year everyone.

I’m a manager in the Client Success Team here at Smokeball so I get to work with many amazing firms as well as our internal teams. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you in person at our Smokeball Spark conference in February.

1. How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? I spent New Years Eve at the beach on the Mid North Coast. It was a lovely day until it was time for the fireworks when the storm rolled in, we all got drenched and the fireworks wouldn’t light 😂
2. Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year? This year I decided to jump on the trend of writing a letter to myself about the year I want 2023 to be. What challenges I want to tackle, what adventures I want to have and how I plan to grow. It’s made me really excited and motivated for the year to come.
3. What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of? I’m originally from Wales and we have a Welsh slang word ‘Cwtch’ which means a cuddle or hug but can also be used to describe a figurative & literal safe place between loved ones.

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?
I was fast asleep until someone set off an absolutely gigantic firework in the park across from my house. At which point what sounded like every car alarm and dog in my town started making noise 😅

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?
I’m learning Olympic lifting currently. I’m training to reach a 90kg/198lbs Snatch and a 110kg/240lbs Clean and Jerk by the end of the year.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?
We have so many abbreviations in Australia!

1. How did you celebrate New Year’s eve? Were you fast asleep (like me), or wide awake?

I watched fireworks on a small island in Fiji.

2. Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

Last year I was very successful in my academic pursuits, so this year I am focusing on my creative side by painting more often.

3. I’ve recently become fascinated with colloquialisms- or slang. What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

I call ‘peppers’ paprika. It made for some confusing times in the supermarket upon reaching adulthood.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hi my is name is Shona Vassallo and I'm one of the Onboarding Specialist here at Smokeball, Its a pleasure, to meet you online,  and I hopefully get the opportunity in meeting many of you in person at our Smokeball Spark conference in February, its a going to be a amazing event!

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?

A nice quiet catch-up with friends on the front yard as it was a balmy night, so it set the scene well!🍾

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

My son just turned 18” on Christmas Day, so being that he's my only child a big goal would be to do a lot more weekend away trips and perhaps longer interstate adventures this year.  Hiking is something new I feel like I would like to venture into as well.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?
What up!

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?

Made some pozole with my family, and enjoyed some movies with plenty of cuddles from the dogs.

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

I would love to continue working on the house, learning new home improvement/DIY skills. Additionally would love to continue learning how to repair and finish furniture.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

Moos. As in the sound a cow makes. I refer to my dogs as “moos”, because they believe (and rightfully so) that they are the Centers Of the World = COW, and so I refer to them as moos, as does the rest of my family now. 🤣

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year. I’m Javier and I am Director of Client Training here in the USA.

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?

This year was the first year in a while that we actually went anywhere. We went over to a friend’s house for board games and low key socializing until just after midnight. Then I came home and finished my Lego Globe build and went to bed lol.

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

On the standard side of things I have been doing well keeping at the gym so i want to continue that cuz I have some goals there. But more importantly, this is th eyear I get married! (36 Days and counting). So that’s a big focus for the next while lol.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

Being a dual citizen between the US and Canada I find that no matter where I am I seem to be using some kind of slang that needs to be explained lol. For example, if I say that something is pretty skookum that means it’s pretty cool. It’s a Canadian thing.

Cheers everyone!

Hello Everyone,

I am a Senior Trainer here at Smokeball.  I have loved reading all of these posts.  Mine seems quite boring in comparison

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?
Asleep by 10:30 p.m. (late night for me!)

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

No resolutions or big goals.  Hopefully get in a round of home made tie dye clothing this year.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

One of my favorite slang terms that I use is from the Australians I work with.  They use arvo for afternoon.  So much less to type!  What are your plans this arvo?

Hello.  Just testing out comments section to make sure it works.

Hi everyone!

I’m a billing specialist from Clarksburg, West Virginia in US.

How did you celebrate New Year’s eve?

Quite boring...we stayed awake watching a movie, “The Day After” and then just went to bed.

Do you have any big goals or resolutions that you’d like to achieve this year?

I’m still fairly new to my position and Smokeball so my big goal for this year is to learn everything I can, which includes any tips or tricks I can learn from the community.

What’s a slang term that you use that people outside your community might not have heard of?

Don’t know about outside my community, but here in West Virginia we have a lot of slang terms….such as holler (a road, usually dirt or gravel, that goes in between two mountains) and two licks (it’s just two licks down the road).  We are also know for creating “pepperoni rolls”, which are pepperoni baked inside bread dough.  Originally created for miners to take into the mine, they have become one of our favorite snacks.
