Viewing and converting emails in SB - with the attachments?

I am in SB looking at a mess of emails imported from a thumb drive provided by client.  Many have attachments, but I cannot view the attachments unless I click on each email.  Is there a way attachments can be shown under the email?  I was thought maybe there was, but perhaps the problem is that these emails were imported and not created by me in my file or outlook integration.

I was thrilled to see I could select the whole batch and make a single PDF, but it does not seem to capture the attachments when I do this.  I thought maybe that was because I cannot see them without opening the email.

It’s late, but hopefully someone understands what I am looking to do.  Perhaps a separate tool is needed?

Hi @Monica K.

Short answer on the main question: no, there isn't currently a way to show attachments nested under their parent email in the document list. A parent/child view is something we're looking at for the future, but it isn't there today.

When you save an email to a matter from Outlook you get the option to save the attachments as well and they land in the matter as their own documents sitting alongside the email. Emails imported from a thumb drive come in as a single file each, so their attachments stay inside the email rather than becoming separate documents.

The 2 ways you can more easily access the attachments from within your matter today are:

  1. Select the email and open the file preview (the icon at the top right of the matter's files list). You can see and open the attachments from there
  2. The same attachments are visible from the Email tab in the matter

When you open one this way, I would suggest saving it back to the matter at that point. It then exists as its own document and you won't have to go back through the email next time.

On the PDF conversion functionality, it should be picking the attachments up. The expected output is that when you convert the email to PDF it combines everything into a single continuous PDF, so the email is page 1 and each attachment follows behind it as pages 2, 3 and so on. If that isn't happening, please reach out to support so we can work out what is going on here.

It would be great if parent/child view existed or if you could turn it on or off.

I do not see the attachments when I click file preview from the regular matter view or the email tab.

There definitely is no attachment getting picked up when I convert.  I tried again today with just a couple emails and I confirmed the attachments were actual documents and not just embedded logos and stuff.

I will call support when I get a chance.
