We utilize contingency fee billing in the employment and civil rights matter types.  we need to be able to keep track of the number of cases that we lose our investment in case expenses.  Is there a way to code a case as lost (no settlement) so that I can then pull the expenses into a report? (We would use a dashboard)

Hi @Fonteneau

Even if your firm is contingency, Smokeball recommends that you create invoices with your portion of the contingent fee and expenses that are being paid. This will allow you to track expenses that have been paid and those that are unpaid.  See this webinar on Processing Settlement on Contingent Matters.

To track unpaid, you can run the Work in Progress - Details report and only include Expenses for entry type.  You can then also filter by Matter Status to only see unbilled (so unpaid) expenses on a closed matters.
