We keep having people accidentally bill to closed matters. Is there a way to lock matters billing once they are closed?

Hello,

This is not currently an available option. I will share this with our product team. Can you send a little bit more information? Do you want to prevent any time entries from being entered? Do you only want to prevent new invoices from being created? What exactly do you mean by “lock”?

So we do trusts and estates. If an estate planning client passes away, we will close their planning matter and open a probate matter. Their Internal References are usually quite similar so sometimes our users enter their time on the closed matter by mistake. Then closed matters have unpaid balance. It would be great to prevent new time entries from being entered so matters that should be closed stay that way.

Thanks so much for the clarification!  I have shared this with our Billing Product Manager.

This happens to us all the time too and then it takes admin staff a long time to review and correct errors.  It shows up in our office if we have a regular client with many different matters.  This may exist in certain subject matters more than others.  In our case it may be real estate where we handle a developer with several projects or transactions happening at one time.  Typically those types of clients are identified by client name and property, so it’s easy to click the wrong one when billing.  It also happens when I go looking for a similar document in another file.  Maybe I open it and look at it for an idea or lift a paragraph, and then there is an auto entry associated with a closed file.  I can delete it when I review my auto posting, but it wuld be great if no entry was created in that scenario.
