Estate administration client as beneficiary

We have situations were a member of our firm is the appointed executor of the estate (or will be the administrator of the estate). The relevant matter types in Smokeball automatically assume that the executor or administrator is the client.

In these situations, it is often a beneficiary or beneficiaries who are the client for the matter and the executor is actually a member of our firm.

Is it possible to create an estate probate or administration matter where a beneficiary or a number of beneficiaries are the clients?

@Adam Vainausaks. Smokeball has the ability to designate which party role you are acting on behalf of in the create matter screen as so:

I suggest you ask support to have the legal configuration team (such as @Josh Hehner)  to add an “acting for” selection allowing for your use case. For our U.S. firm, it could be beneficial to have the options of: Administrator/Executor, Heir, Legatee, and Claimant.

Hi Adam, Smokeball does not currently have the ability to nominate a beneficiary as the client in a Probate or Letters of Administration matter.

I’ve spoken to our Legal Product department and they advised this is something they can consider as they review the matter types for improvements.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion!
