Date field in Templates

What is the best practices for the date field in templates?  Is it best to use MS Word, date, and have it un-checked for automatic updates?  Or  use Smokeball Document creation date, or Today - Current Date (for PDF)?

The issue comes if the document was created, and date is populated, and saved.  If the document is opened at a later date or printed only to be viewed the date updates to the date of the printing or viewing.

Hi Sharon,

If you do not want the date to update when you go to reprint a document you will want to use the document creation date field. Even if you use the one in Smokeball it is actually linked to the Microsoft Word field for document creation date. If you want the date of the document to update every time you go to print it you will want to use the Today field. Again, even though it is showing in the Smokeball Automation ribbon on the right hand side it is linked to the Microsoft Word field for Today.

The fields with PDF in the name should only be used when automating PDF documents.
