We are new to smokeball and want to know if we have a client with multiple matters, is there a way to create the “master” client and then the various matters branch off of the same client?  Hope this makes sense.  Thank you!

Hello @malvarano

Thank you very much for your feedback. I have shared this with our product team. Many client suggestions are implemented while some are not. Development of a new feature may take some time to implement suggestions based on complexity.

Keep an eye out here in the Community as well as on our New Releases section in our Support Hub for the latest updates.

We’d also like this if possible

Hi Carly!

I have shared your upvote with the product team on this as well. If either you or @malvarano  would like to share what you are hoping to get out of having a master client with branch matters, that would be helpful. For instance, is it for billing purposes? Is it for better tracking of documents and emails? The more details you can share the better!

Sure, so for example, I have this guy who has a trust and 3 LLCs with us. While we put drafted and signed documents in each matter, communication usually encompasses 2-4 matters at any one time. I’ve got another guy who has 32 different matters with us. Finding communications with these clients is incredibly difficult because we have to open multiple matters and piece together a conversation. For my first guy, we decided to experiment, and all communication gets assigned to his main matter, that way we don’t have to recreate timelines and communication.

I would also like to see this feature.  I have many clients who have separate matter files.  I think this happens with a transactional practice.  I have clients with multiple LLCs and real estate matters and also estate planning. It would be very helpful to have a master client with submatters.  This makes it easier to keep up with all current matters in one place and would make it easy to create one bill with all submatters listed.

@wilmingtonfan , thanks for the additional context!
