Welcome to the March legal content update! This month’s edition includes a look at the new Motor Vehicle Recovery Matter Type, form updates including the new 2026 Contract for Sale, as well as improvements to Smokeball reports.
Let’s take a look at the main highlights.
Motor Vehicle Recovery Matter Type
This month we released the new Motor Vehicle Recovery Matter Type. This is available under the Litigation Category and is a hybrid of the existing Motor Vehicle Accident and Debt Recovery matter types. This Matter Type is currently available for NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and WA. Within the matter you can enter details of the Client, At Fault Party, Accident Details, Claim Details, Case Details, and Offer and Settlement Details.

NSW Contract for Sale and Purchase of Land 2026
The NSW Law Society has released the 2026 Edition of the Contract for the Sale and Purchase of Land and will discontinue sales of the 2022 Edition on 13 March 2026.
In line with this update:
- The "Contract for the Sale and Purchase of Land 2026 Edition (Pages 1–4)" has been added to the Smokeball Precedent Library;
- The "Contract for the Sale and Purchase of Land 2022 Edition (Pages 1–4)" will be deleted from the Smokeball Precedent Library on 16 March 2026;
- No changes have been made to the Cooling Off Notice in our Precedent Library as it already aligns with the latest version.
In addition to the above, the following precedents have also been added to Precedents Online Marketplace Precedents, in the Property > Sale folder:
- Contract for Sale of Land 2026 - SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Residential
- Contract for Sale of Land 2026 - SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Commercial
Other Forms Updates
This month we also made a number of updates to the following form suites in the Precedent Library:
- Department of Home Affairs Forms;
- Victoria Children’s Court Research Materials;
- QLD BCCM Forms;
- SA Conveyancing Forms;
- Marketplace Precedents:
- FLENA: Updates to some precedent letters.
Report Updates
This month, the 'Register of Files Opened' desktop report has been updated with the following enhancements:
- Added an “As at Date” date picker (default set to today’s date).
- Introduced a Filter Type parameter, allowing users to either:
- View all records, or apply the As at Date filter based on their preference.
